Gardaí investigating suspected petrol bomb attack on property earmarked for asylum seekers



Gardaí are investigating a suspected petrol bomb attack on a Dublin property being considered for asylum accommodation.

The incident occurred at a vacant property on High Street, Tallaght, at about 11.10pm on Tuesday.

Local fire services, gardaí and emergency services all attended the scene. The fire was brought under control a short time later. 

There were no injuries reported.

A technical examination of the scene has since been conducted.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of High Street, Tallaght, between 10.30pm and 11.30pm and who observed any unusual activity is asked to contact investigating gardaí.

Any road users or pedestrians who were travelling in the area during this time and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to make this available to gardaí.

“Inquiries are ongoing,” a Garda spokesperson said.

The incident marks the latest arson attack in which a building linked to the housing of international protection applicants has been targeted.

Last Thursday, a number of security workers were assaulted and vehicles damaged at a site designated for refugees in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.
