Man, 80s, killed in quad bike accident on Achill Island



A man in his 80s has been killed in an accident involving a quad bike in Co Mayo. 

Gardaí are investigating the single-vehicle road traffic collision, which happened along the road to Purteen Harbour, off the R319 near Keel on Achill Island at approximately 1.45pm on Sunday afternoon. 

The driver of the quad bike, a man in his 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

His body will be conveyed to Mayo University Hospital where an autopsy will take place in due course. No other injuries were reported.

The road where the accident occurred is currently closed pending a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses. 

Any road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, from the vicinity of Keel from between 1pm and 2pm have been asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
