Viewers praise contestant as he comforts date after ’emotional rollercoaster’

RTE First Dates viewers have all praised a contestant as he comforted his emotional date.

Tonight Cillian, 22, from Dublin took two shots to cool his nerves before meeting up with Limerick native Alex, 21.

Cillian asked Alex if he wanted to do another shot with him but was turned down.

The pair thought they were “opposites” as Cillian loves to go out while Alex isn’t much into it and is a bit more serious.

However, the couple got into a deep discussion as Alex opened up about his sexuality and admitted: “You’ll actually be shocked right now but I’m not out.”

He added: “Well I’m out except my family.”

Alex’s parents are both Russian and he said: “Russian culture can be very restricting. There’s no way in hell I could have been an open free gay guy in Latvia.”

Cillian was gobsmacked and said: “Oh my god.”

Alex replied: “It’s fine.”

Cillian sympathised with Alex and said: “It’s not fine though. It’s not. I know. I’m really sorry.

“It’s s*** and it’s tough but you are f***ing killing it because you’re still here.”

Alex said: “I feel like I’m trauma dumping and I don’t like trauma dumping.”

The pair enjoyed each other’s company and wanted to stay friends.

Cillian said: “Us gays got to stay together.”

Alex added: “Yes, that was an emotional rollercoaster.”

At the end of the show it was revealed that Alex has since came out to his family.

RTE viewers all praised Cillian on being such a “wonderful person”.

Mags tweeted: “Everyone needs a friend like him.”

Elaine said: “I love the astrophysicist what a fab chap! #FirstDatesirl.”

Philip wrote: “The young man with the red hair is a wonderful person. Empathy is a great quality.”

Colin added: “Fair play to that guy.”

MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

First up tonight was Dublin natives Tom, 53, and Amy, 55, who hit it off from the beginning of their date.

The pair bonded over the love of their children.

When Tom was asked if he fancies Amy, he replied: “Oh yeah, she’s lovely. Sure why wouldn’t you. Hopefully she feels the same.”

They both wanted to see each other again as Tom said he would do it “in a heart beat”.

Amy said Tom was “a gentleman”.

The couple have gone on two more dates since their initial meeting.

Wellness coach Colm, 32, from Dun Laoghaire met impulsive Maria, 32, from Wexford.

Colm spoke up about his “mad house” with seven siblings.

DEEP CHATS

Speaking to the camera, Maria opened up about her mental health saying: “When I was a teenager, I ended up with depression, I ended up with hospital in it as well.

“I feel like I didn’t make the most of that time so now I’m very much like, ‘If you want something to do – do it.”

She told Colm: “I was in a relationship for a really long time in my early twenties up till my thirties so when I came out of that I was like, ‘What do you want? Just go do it now, there’s no one to hold you back’.”

Colm spoke about being a “party boy” in the past and said he used to “wake up in his neighbours bed naked”.

He said he was binge drinking to “escape” and “abused it too much”.

DOTING DATE

Colm told Maria how his late dad was a struggling alcoholic and helped him give it up.

And while Maria thought Colm was a “great person”, she didn’t want another date with him.

While Chloe, 21, from Cavan sat down for dinner with Craig, 21, from Offaly.

Craig spoke about his farming work and was surprised when Chloe admitted she lives on a farm.

Craig described a romantic second date he’d bring Chloe on as she told him she’s only been taken to McDonald’s in the past.

The pair were smiling, laughing and flirting throughout the night and both agreed to a second hiking date.
